INTRODUCTION TUNNEL GUARD EQUIPMENT TEST RESULTS CONTACT

Tunnel Guard is cementitious mixture combined with a polypropylene fibre additive that exhibits good binding and sealing characteristics. It is packaged in a 25Kg bag and is provided as a three part mix. Sprayed with a portable Samine pump, a 25kg bag will provide 3 square metres of area coverage at a thickness of between 3 and 4 millimetres depending on over break and fracturing. Tunnel Guard also comes packaged in a 12.5Kg bag which is applied using our Samine hand pump and used for travelling ways, gullies and stopes.

Tunnel Guard Strengths

 •   Tensile strength of 7.79 Mpa
 •   Flexural strength of 4.3 Mpa
 •   Compressive strength 32.5 Mpa
 •   Bond strength 3.75 Mpa
 •   Bond shear 7.87 Mpa
 •   Shear strength 17.9 Mpa
 •   Initial setting in 1 hour and
     80% of ultimate strength
     achieved in 3 days.
 •   Can be applied in humid
     and damp conditions.
 •   Shelf life of 12 months
 •   Non flammable & Non toxic

The above graph will indicate total cost, including shaft time, tramming time and material cost to apply 300m² of Tunnel Guard versus the application of Shotcrete at different thicknesses. A further benefit and cost saving of Tunnel Guard is the rebound factor. Observed quantities of rebound vary from 2% for Tunnel Guard to between 10 and 15% for shotcrete.

Tunnel Guard can be applied to various rock types and rock applications

Conclusion: Due to it’s combination of strengths Tunnel Guard can be used on a variety of ground conditions and ground types. Tunnel Guard's various strengths are unmatched by Shotcrete or Wetcrete and is both an excellent support medium that acts as a sealant and key block-interlocker that prevents weathering and rock deterioration, preserving the excavations for long term mining. Tunnel Guard is non-flammable and non-toxic and as a solution provides you with significant cost reduction on material because of the reduced amounts required to cover your rock surface, transport of material is reduced because of the reduced quantity of material and valuable labour and time is saved on transport and application. The application of Tunnel Guard will not interfere with any blasting operations due to its quick setting time.
